The competition is heating up. Right after HTC unveiled their version of a 4-inch touchscreen HD video capable smartphone, LG is coming out with one of their own, but steps up the ante considerably. The LG Optimus 2X features the first ever dual-core processor in a mobile phone, the first appearance of the highly anticipated NVIDIA Tegra 2. The new LG flagship features a 16 million colors capable 4-inch touchscreen in an 800 x 480 resolution. The device is capable to record and reproduce video of 720p and 1080p, there is an HDMI port and a camera that has 8 megapixels and LED flash. It is an Android based phone, has 512MB of RAM and 8GB integrated storage. A microSD slot allows sticks with up to 32GB capacity to be added, there is the now obligatory phone jack, micro USB 2.0, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR and A2DP, DLNA, Wi-FI and the aforementioned GeForce graphics as the cherry on the top.
While this pressure by the competition provides for really great phones to be produced, it is questionable how far a regular customer can actually take advantage of all the capabilities of such a modern marvel. This phone comes already pre-loaded with features that would easily take on a laptop computer a couple of years old. It features a screen resolution that can display HD video and even software to edit the said video in the same device that does not weigh more than five ounces. It will take an average citizen a whole year to learn to make proper use of such a high end device, and at that time this device will become hopelessly outdated.
All in all this is a great device, but there are better alternatives out there. Only opt for this if you are a huge LG fan or really liked the LG Optimus.
